Coffee machines

Regular maintenance of your coffee maker, espresso machine or grinder is essential if you want to extend the life of your equipment. But, in addition to avoiding breakdowns, it will also allow you to fully enjoy the aromas of your coffee. A parameter not to be overlooked, especially if you invest in quality equipment and coffee! It would be a shame to see a specialty coffee completely altered by a pressure problem or residue...

The first enemy of espresso machines is limescale! Most manufacturers therefore recommend using filtered water. A filter carafe, a water purifier or a cartridge placed directly in the tank of your coffee maker are among the solutions to continue using tap water, while reducing the limescale level. Note that mineral water also contains limescale, since this refers to calcium and magnesium carbonate, which are necessary for our bodies. The "hardness" of water depends on the brands and regions (for tap water).

Please note that even if you use filtered water, it is recommended to descale your coffee machine regularly, as all the limescale cannot be completely eliminated. A scaled coffee machine causes excess energy consumption, encourages the proliferation of bacteria and germs and alters the taste of your coffee… Descaling every 3 to 6 months — depending on how much you use your machine and the hardness of the water — is therefore generally a good idea. To do this, you can buy liquid or tablet descaler.

Limescale deposits are not the only enemies to target when maintaining your coffee machine. Also remember to regularly and thoroughly clean the coffee residues, which remain lodged in the coffee group, in the brewing head or in the filter — depending on the type of device —, or in your grinder or coffee mill. Use a liquid cleaner or a powder detergent, lukewarm water and a small brush.

If your coffee machine contains a specific accessory dedicated to the preparation of milk drinks, such as cappuccino, maintenance also involves cleaning the pipes in order to prevent the development of bacteria. Special cleaning products exist to remove milk residues, which are generally difficult to access. The steam nozzle must be rinsed after each use, by running a little steam and wiping it with a damp cloth.

Finally, know that in the event of a breakdown or breakage of your beloved coffee machine, all is not lost! Filters, seals and other spare parts are available on CoffeeAvenue and if the problem is repairable, it still has a bright future ahead of it.

By following these few maintenance tips, your coffee machine will accompany you in the long term and will faithfully prepare delicious espressos, cup after cup! Good to know: some brands offer a complete maintenance kit, which allows you to have all the products on hand.
